Wood

Wood has its firm place among the structural materials in the construction industry; it is used in wood-based materials, glued into scantlings or laminated wood beams, but also finds many applications in useful products in its native form or thermally/chemically modified; as axe handle, as terrace flooring, as a playground device or as fencing element. These diverse applications are linked to requirements for products and their intended use, in which wood often needs to compete with other materials and products.

The EPH is your service partner when it comes to meeting the requirements of the market and those of statutory regulations and standards.

Thereby, the EPH can also rely on the competence of the IHD, its parent company’s specialists and their valuable experience – from wood species determination to the thermal or chemical modification of wood.

In order to meet the requirements of the Construction Product Regulation (CPR) of providing a performance statement regarding CE marking, e.g., “structural timber assorted by strength” or “laminated timber”, the EPH is your partner as a notified product certification body.

For thermally modified timber (TMT), the EPH offers the certification program "Quality Mark TMT" that takes into account various applications.

We can check native or chemically/thermally modified timber for relevant performance parameters at our accredited test laboratory (chemical, biologically, physico-mechanically) and/or neutrally assess them in line with a certification program.

Surface quality (durability, optical appearance) is of outstanding importance to many applications; and that’s why our service offers a wide range of specific surface testing – be it of coated or uncoated timber.

The odour and the emission behaviour of coated and uncoated timber are often enough of decisive importance for their use in interior design. The EPH is renowned worldwide as a partner for testing, surveillance and certification of hygiene-relevant properties in living spaces. So there are tests, for example, that check on the antimicrobial properties of wood and wood-based materials against mould, bacteria or algae, including their surface coatings.

Sound quality and environmental management is the guarantor for efficient production and oftentimes a prerequisite for success in the market.

The EPH Certification Body for Management Systems offers you expert certification for your QMS 9001 and/or EMS 14001.
